My Boundless story

In June 2019, I wrote an email to join Boundless Minds. At that time, they were not hiring, at least that's not why I wrote to them. I will not get into the bits and pieces, but the rest is history.

One of the things that drew me to Boundless at that time, was my quest for answers. Answers to questions about the Ugandan education system.

Why what was taught in conventional school, compared to the skillset required in the workplace where nowhere close to each other.

What quality education meant and whether our children were getting holistic education.

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 which is Quality education, [and not just boarding school like you might think], is one of the themes that has always tagged close to my heart. One that rings more bells than I can ever explain.

When you cease to view education as just a purely academic approach and start to think of it as a package, a combination of the technical skills, soft skills, empathy, problem solving, communication, you will start to understand where I am coming from.

I have met many people [including my mother] who do not understand the work that I do or I was doing at Boundless for that case.

Let me bring you up to speed...

Boundless Minds is a social enterprise that seeks to bridge the school-to-work transition gap through mentorship and soft skills training.

For the last 4 years, I have led the Soft skilling department, which is a boujee way to say head of training.

My work mainly involved contributing towards development of structured work-readiness curriculum, facilitating training sessions, recruitment of mentors and mentees and partnership management / stakeholder engagement.

Some of the modules I have facilitated over the years include; human centered design, personal leadership, official communication, empathy, social media literacy, Cv writing, job interview skills, public speaking, writing and storytelling.

Apart from passionately speaking about and listening to stories about the state of our education system, very few things usually move my heart.

One of them that I recently discovered was impact. The impact I had contributed towards with the team at Boundless Minds and all its donors.

As I read through WhatsApp messages and Twitter (X) responses from Boundless alumni, my heart skipped.

With every cohort, every school, every university visited and every online session, I have engaged with numerous young people.

Each story is unique but some linger on more than others. It is a joy to see 2 versions of a person - before the mentorship program and after the mentorship program, the difference being growth, confidence and resilience.

Oh what a joy to see young people realising their potential and going ahead to thrive.

For the footprints in the sand, for the career fortunes achieved, for the entrepreneurship mountains conquered, for the 4 years of rethinking how we learn and transforming one young person at a time, I am honored to have written that story.

See you at the top.

Cheers!
